Map of the town of Khanty-Mansiysk

Information on the project:

The interactive map of the town of Khanty-Mansiysk consists of raster and vector layers.

The basis for the visualization of the town is a space image of the town received from IKONAS. A digital image is a result of scanning and geo-transformation of a map given by Transport, Connections Department of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug.

The streets, constructions, buildings, bus routs and other data are represented in the form of a database of thematic vector layers.

The tools allow image scaling, objects searching, distance measuring and printing a map with the legend.

Search of geographical objects coordinates

Information on the project:

Project "Russian server of geographical names" allows access to geographical coorditates database of National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) (until December 2003 known as National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA)). This project, being a Russian analogue of GEOnet Names Server (GNS), has friendlier interface than the original server and allows browsing the found objects on the map.

Interactive vector map of Russia, scale 1:1000000

Information on the project:

The given example of interactive map scaled 1:1 000000 is made on the basis of a vector map of Russia, produced by public corporation “Data+”. Some layers of bigger scale maps are added for the territory of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug.

The tools allow image scaling, objects searching, distance measuring and printing a map with the legend.

Vegetation map of the Western-Siberian Plain

Information on the project:

The source of this development is the well-known vegetation map of the Western-Siberian Plain made in the scale 1:1 500 000 in the Institute of Siberia and Far East Geography of the Sibrian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences under the direction of Academician V.B. Sochava. The map was issued in 1976.

Numeralization (vectorization) of the map was accomplished in 2001 in the Central Siberian Botanical Gardens according to the technology and requirements developed in Ugra Research Institute of Information Technologies (URIIT) within the Agreement between URIIT and some other institutions of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The technology comprises developing of attribute data classifier, methods of map referencing with geographical coordinates and data verification methods. In URIIT the digital map is used in the formats of geo-information systems MapInfo and ArcGIS. The tools allow image scaling, objects searching, distance measuring and printing a map with the legend.

Soils map of Oktyabrskiy district of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug

Information on the project:

A digital layer of the map “Soils of Oktyabrskiy district of the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug” is developed at the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and given to Ugra Research Institute of Information technologies within the agreement between URIIT and some other institutes of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The soils classifier developed at the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry with URIIT cooperation is used for the layer.

In URIIT the digital map is used in the formats of geo-information systems MapInfo and ArcGIS. The tools allow image scaling, objects searching, distance measuring and printing a map with the legend.

Forest fires in Pribaikalie, July 16, 2003

Information on the project:

This example represents forest fire information.

The data on seats of fire is shown in the result of space images processing. The space images are from sensors AVHRR from the satellites NOAA (further – sensor MODIS installed on the satellites TERRA and AQUA). The algorithms for fire seats detection are developed at Ugra Research Institute of Information Technologies.

Simultaneously, it is possible to see a raster image of the Earth surface and vector layers of an interactive map with the scale 1:1 000000, and also thematic layers of bigger scaled maps.

The tools allow image scaling, objects searching, distance measuring and printing a map with the legend.

Flooding situation on June 20, 2003

Information on the project:

This example represents information on flooding situation.
The data on flooding situation is shown in the result of space images processing. The space images are from sensors AVHRR from the satellites NOAA (further – sensor MODIS installed on the satellites TERRA and AQUA).

In URIIT, a technology of automated image processing is realized. It allows classifying such objects as melting snow, ice, water-covered ice, open water and so on. The technology was approved during the spring period of 2001 in Western-Siberian Center of data receiving and processing, Roshidromet. Simultaneously, it is possible to see a raster image of the Earth surface and vector layers of an interactive map with the scale 1:1 000000, and also thematic layers of bigger scaled maps.

The tools allow image scaling, objects searching, distance measuring and printing a map with the legend.

The project was carried out as an element of GIS assessment of flooding situation on the territory of the Okrug and can be used in a support system for decision-making in flooding situation appearance and development.
